About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Manage the complete project life cycle from input analysis through design and engineering, testing, FAT, and commissioning
  • Collect and review project inputs from the front office or customer site through email, kickoff meetings, and site surveys
  • Execute DCS and SCADA-based Solar, BESS, and Microgrid greenfield and retrofit projects
  • Perform software and hardware engineering and configuration
  • Guide implementation of controls from SAMA, functional diagrams, and functional descriptions
  • Modify DCS/SCADA graphics and create and test faceplate and control macros
  • Create and modify DCS internal point databases and prepare hardware I/O databases from customer drawings
  • Prepare and guide teams on I/O lists and DBID; implement and test DCS building blocks
  • Implement analogue and digital simulation logic for first-pass and tie-back simulation testing
  • Configure third-party protocols, ELC, and SLC communications
  • Distribute engineering work to system integrators and follow up on budget, schedule, and quality
  • Participate in kickoff, internal, and external project meetings, customer demos, FATs, SATs, and commissioning
  • Use PSCAD and PSSE modeling to simulate and test power systems
  • Conduct process testing of Solar, BESS, Microgrid plants, and BOP
  • Apply industrial standards including IEEE, IEC, NEC, and grid codes
  • Read electrical single-line diagrams and switchboard control logic drawings
  • Perform Ovation system power-up, redundancy, I/O, analogue, and digital device testing
  • Conduct loop and device checks, panel charging, fault finding, and required logic, graphics, and database modifications
  • Diagnose faults in Ovation, network systems, and communication interfaces including OPC, Modbus, DNP3, serial, and IEC 61850
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to troubleshoot hardware and software
  • Commission Solar, BESS, and Microgrid plants for commercial operation
  • Travel to project sites for testing, tuning, third-party communications, and commissioning
  • Interface with customers and prepare site reports
  • Follow department quality and HSE processes and procedures

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Electronics, Control & Instrumentation, Power Engineering)
  • Three (3) to Eight (8) years of experience in DCS/PLC programming, engineering, or commissioning
  • Ability to troubleshoot DCS/PLC control systems
  • Relevant digital and AI capabilities
  • Full-cycle ownership of tasks and processes
  • Excellent verbal and written language and communication skills
  • Ability to write reports and business communications
  • Ability to present information and respond to queries from managers, clients, and customers
  • Ability to interface with vendors and subcontractors
  • Understanding of safety tools, gear, and site safety guidelines
  • Good knowledge of Solar and BESS power plant processes and KPIs
  • Good knowledge of Microgrid electrical control functions and required I/O signals
  • Knowledge of electrical equipment including switchboards, generators, turbines, AVRs, motors, transformers, capacitors, CTs, VTs, feeders, meters, and relays
  • Knowledge of C programming
