About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Collaborate with a cross-functional Agile team developing Emerson's PACSystems technologies
Review and provide detailed feedback on peers' designs and code
Participate in sprint planning, retrospectives, Hackathons, Tech Talks, and Communities of Practice
Partner with product managers and industrial automation subject matter experts to understand domain requirements
Translate complex domain knowledge into precise, actionable software specifications
Author and refine structured software specifications using modern spec-driven approaches
Develop next-generation client-side software for configuring, programming, visualizing, and managing PACSystems controllers and automation solutions
Use modern tools, frameworks, and AI-assisted development workflows
Debug and validate software on unreleased products and field issues
Help improve scrum team processes, tools, and ways of working
Adopt and refine AI-enabled development practices
Stay current on emerging technologies, AI development tooling, and spec-driven methodologies
Ask questions, challenge assumptions, and define problems before developing solutions
Support teammates' growth and collaborate on delivering results

Requirements

What you’ll need

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related STEM discipline with 7+ years of relevant software development experience, OR master's degree in a related field with 6+ years of relevant experience
Proven experience designing and developing client-side software applications using JavaScript, Python, C#, C++, or similar languages
Experience integrating with or interfacing against real-time systems, embedded controllers, or industrial communication protocols
Legal authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship now and in the future
Experience developing desktop or web applications in industrial or automation software environments
Familiarity with real-time operating systems such as LinuxRT, or understanding of real-time system constraints
Experience with AI-assisted and spec-driven development workflows
Experience with structured specification languages such as OpenAPI, Protobuf, GraphQL schemas, or JSON Schema
Experience with interface definition languages, gRPC, or contract-first design approaches
Proficiency in TypeScript, Python, C#, or C++ within spec-driven or AI-enabled development pipelines
Demonstrated experience working within Agile or SAFe delivery frameworks
Background in process control or industrial automation industry
