About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide leadership support for International Student and Scholar Services, including departmental planning and execution, immigration compliance oversight, staff development, and service delivery
- Serve as a senior resource and subject matter expert on employment-based immigration matters, including H-1B, E-3, O-1, TN, waiver, and permanent residence processes
- Oversee complex cases and collaborate with senior leadership on policies, procedures, and operational practices
- Monitor immigration rule changes and recommend institutional responses, policy updates, and process improvements
- Lead onboarding and training of ISSS advisors and staff
- Develop and deliver immigration, compliance, and customer service training programs
- Mentor, coach, and provide performance support to advisors; may supervise professional and/or student staff
- Advise international students, scholars, faculty, administrators, HR professionals, and academic or program leadership on immigration regulations and employment authorization
- Advise units on recruitment, hiring, sponsorship, hosting, and retention of foreign nationals
- Serve as a Designated School Official and Alternate Responsible Officer to administer federal immigration programs and ensure compliance
- Represent Emory University in petitions, applications, and communications with federal, state, and local agencies
- Analyze operational, regulatory, and service data to identify trends and support data-informed decisions
- Lead business process improvements, service programs, workshops, outreach initiatives, orientation, and pre-arrival programs
- Collaborate with campus partners to enhance support services for Emory's international community
- Participate in departmental planning, assessment, and strategic initiatives supporting ISSS goals and Emory's internationalization efforts
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree in a related field
- Four years of directly related experience, preferably in a leadership role
- Must be able to serve as an expert Designated School Official (P/DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (A/RO) and meet government eligibility requirements
- Ability to learn and understand changing complex federal, state, and local regulations and communicate them effectively
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Experience using the Sunapsis international office module and PeopleSoft preferred
- Proficiency and experience handling employment-based petitions such as H-1B, E-3, and permanent residency
- Experience living, studying, or working in a country different from one's own desirable
