About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Work closely with the Principal Investigator in all aspects of the research
  • Conduct quantitative epidemiological data analysis using SAS, Stata, or R
  • Develop manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals as a co-author and first author
  • Support or lead grant proposal development
  • Present findings at scientific conferences
  • Support project implementation, including overseeing data collection, recruitment, retention, regulatory issues, and data management activities
  • Support data analysis and manuscript development for NIH-funded R01 studies focused on HIV-exposed children in South Africa and perinatal depression among women with HIV in Malawi
  • Support project coordination for a South Africa study on healthy gestational weight gain
  • Design and evaluate experiments
  • Develop new ideas that promote current research
  • Prepare and publish scientific manuscripts under the direction of the Principal Investigator
  • Operate specific equipment as needed
  • Teach techniques to others, train, and supervise research staff as needed

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Doctoral degree or equivalent (Ph.D., M.D., ScD., D.V.M., DDS etc) in an appropriate field
  • Excellent scientific writing ability
  • Strong oral communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively and collegially with colleagues
  • Demonstrated interest in pediatric or perinatal epidemiology
  • Experience in HIV research
  • Excellent quantitative and analytic skills
  • Experience with project coordination, including overseeing study recruitment, retention, regulatory, and data management activities
  • Commitment to at least one year in the position
  • Expertise in epidemiologic methods
  • Experience in longitudinal data analysis, predictive modeling, or advanced epidemiology methods
  • Experience in HIV, global health, or pediatric/perinatal research
  • Demonstrated publication record
  • Experience in data management and analysis using SAS, R, or other statistical software
  • Experience with project coordination for HIV or global health projects, including overseeing study recruitment, retention, and data management
  • Strong interest in a career in academic research
  • Ability to commute to Emory University as needed and sometimes on short notice
