About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform defined research and laboratory tests and experiments according to prescribed protocols and schedules
- Set up experiments as prescribed by the principal investigator
- Manage other research specialists
- Conduct molecular biology experiments
- Maintain tissue culture lines and grow virus stocks
- Perform experiments using human or animal influenza viruses in tissue culture systems
- Perform fluorescence microscopy, western blot, ELISA, and other biochemical assays
- Maintain laboratory inventory and prepare buffers
- Order laboratory supplies
- Perform laboratory maintenance, including sterilization and equipment cleaning
- Maintain records, files, and logs in laboratory notebooks and computer databases
- Compile study data and results for publications, grants, and seminar presentations
- Train graduate students in laboratory techniques
- Perform basic animal handling and husbandry
- Perform related responsibilities as required by the principal investigator
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree in a scientific field OR equivalent combination of experience, education, and training
- Ability to perform molecular biology experiments
- Experience or ability to work with human or animal influenza viruses in tissue culture systems
- Knowledge of fluorescence microscopy, western blot, ELISA, and other biochemical assays
- Ability to maintain tissue culture lines and grow virus stocks
- Ability to perform basic animal handling and husbandry
- Ability to maintain detailed written records
- Ability to work with, take precautions against, and/or be immunized against potentially hazardous agents
- Ability to manage other research specialists
- Ability to order supplies and perform general laboratory management
