About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Assist in directing the management and implementation of the Trachoma Control Program
  • Support staff management, budget preparation, policy formation, and development strategy
  • Serve as deputy director for overall program management, trachoma country staff management, and institutional management functions
  • Lead process improvement, integration, strategic planning, and management activities
  • Make commitments regarding programmatic activities with other organizations and departments
  • Conduct applied program-related research and innovation projects
  • Manage program publications and hold expert meetings
  • Develop short- and long-term program goals and objectives and make recommendations to the Director
  • Plan, administer, and monitor program budgets, including capital equipment, operations, and personnel
  • Review expenses, investigate variances, and take corrective action to control expenses
  • Design and implement program/project activities, including selected projects in endemic countries
  • Investigate opportunities for global program expansion and develop innovative projects
  • Represent the Trachoma Control Program and Director with dignitaries, organizations, donors, and guests
  • Promote collaboration with other Carter Center programs and departments
  • Prepare and deliver technical presentations at scientific forums and institutional meetings
  • Write, review, and edit briefings, publicity materials, specialized reports, confidential correspondence, and written inquiries
  • Supervise administrative, financial, operational, and programmatic areas and assigned staff
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies and procedures and develop efficient implementation procedures
  • Maintain professional growth and development for self and program staff

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Master's degree in a field related to the program
  • Seven years of professional experience related to the program
  • Previous supervisory and program/project management experience, or equivalent combination of experience, education, and training
  • Minimum seven years of professional program-related experience in program management, public health, or Trachoma Control
  • Managerial experience including staff supervision and project-based budgeting
  • Strong writing and communication skills
  • Familiarity with collaboration among national governments, academia, and NGOs
  • Strong experience in fundraising, donor relations, report writing, grant management, and sub-grant management
  • Intermediate to advanced French writing and communication skills
  • Logistical and procurement acumen and previous management
  • Hostile Environment Awareness Training (HEAT) required
  • Must be currently authorized to work in the United States for any employer
  • Must be able to commute to The Carter Center on a flexible weekly schedule
  • Non-exempt employees must reside within the state of Georgia
