About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Coordinate major financial reporting and budgeting activities
  • Process monthly and fiscal financial close, reporting, forecasting, annual budgeting, and strategic initiatives for departmental revenue and costs
  • Ensure compliance with regulations, reporting requirements, and University policies and guidelines
  • Coordinate correction of account balances and resolve funding issues
  • Maintain proper accounting controls and procedures
  • Prepare and analyze statistical and financial reports, financial statements, supporting schedules, KPI reports, documents, and presentations
  • Research and analyze complex financial and statistical data
  • Create advanced Excel and Tableau models
  • Champion ad hoc finance and operations projects
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on internal financial systems, processes, and reporting
  • Identify and implement efficiency and automation improvements
  • Collaborate across teams and lead process changes and new initiatives
  • Handle unit ad hoc expense approvals and procurement needs
  • May assist with department or organizational budgets
  • May maintain grant agreements, coordinate grant reporting, review grant funding compliance, and negotiate grant funding
  • May perform indirect cost analysis
  • May hire, train, and supervise a small staff

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, finance or a related field and four years of financial analyst or accounting experience, OR equivalent combination of experience, education, and training
  • Advanced functional knowledge of Microsoft Office products, especially Excel
  • Knowledge of sophisticated Financial Reporting & Planning systems
  • Ability to analyze, interpret, and synthesize large amounts of financial, statistical and operational data
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to prepare varied financial reports in a timely and effective manner
  • Self-driven team player with a growth mindset
  • Ability to grasp information, make recommendations, solve problems, share knowledge, and collaborate with minimal supervision
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Quick learner
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Master's degree in an analytical discipline and experience with Power BI and/or Tableau are a plus
