About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Manage day-to-day administration of benefits, payroll, union obligations, and related accounting processes
- Manage payroll operations, including time and attendance, payroll questions, and timely, accurate payroll processing
- Assist with internal and external audits, examinations, compliance, and tax audits
- Coordinate processing of new hires, terminations, and other employee changes
- Maintain accurate payroll records and confidential information
- Manage, coach, and develop the Payroll & Benefits Administrator
- Lead payroll policy development and implementation
- Streamline payroll processes and workflows
- Oversee employee benefit programs, enrollment, FMLA, PFL, retirement, workers’ compensation, disability, and related programs
- Manage vendor relationships, benefit census reports, renewal bids, and 401(k) discriminatory testing
- Conduct open enrollment meetings and advise employees on benefits
- Resolve benefits issues and improve benefits-function efficiency
- Process benefits invoices, billings, reconciliations, union benefits, and dues
- Manage wellness initiatives
- Maintain the 32BJ Employer Self-Service System and coordinate union audits and payments
- Partner with unions and business units on union payroll matters
- Assist with monthly financial close, account reconciliations, and journal entries
- Support strategic initiatives, process enhancements, and ad-hoc projects
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in Human Resources
- 10+ years of benefits administration experience preferred
- Knowledgeable in government regulations related to payroll such as ACA, ERISA, FMLA, PFL and state and federal regulations
- Retirement plan management and/or administration experience
- Knowledge of and experience using ADP Workforce Now
- Demonstrated proficiency with HR metrics and reporting
- Strong interpersonal skills and customer service orientation
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Integrity, discretion and sensitivity to confidential information
- Ability to prioritize, multitask and operate independently in a deadline-driven environment
- Ability to interact with managers and employees at all levels
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
