About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Design and develop assigned mechanical components, including sheet-metal and machined-metal parts and assemblies
  • Develop theoretical mechanical concepts to integrate mechanical and electrical components into one assembly
  • Convert technical requirements into schematic diagrams and assembly drawings using AutoCAD and Inventor
  • Apply knowledge of metal machining, fabrication, and assembly processes
  • Apply packaging techniques for high-performance electronics in harsh environments
  • Ensure designs are producible and error-free
  • Recommend procedures, processes, templates, and tools for assigned tasks
  • Support System Architects in capturing, refining, and addressing customer requirements via the POTS system
  • Provide input on technological opportunities and assist with capital plans, project schedules, and budgets for Engineering
  • Provide technical assistance for Pilot Line builds and testing of new products and systems
  • Provide component-level reviews and troubleshooting support for Manufacturing and Technical Services, and assist Sales
  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring, guidance, and technical reviews for junior mechanical designers/engineers
  • Review mechanical drawings and designs for adherence to specifications and standards

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Must be a US Person (US Citizen, person granted US Permanent Resident Card or any individual who is granted status as a "protected person")
  • Pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering or related field
  • Experience with 3D design, finite element analysis, and computational fluid dynamics (preferred)
  • Ability to stand, sit, and bend while lifting and reviewing computer hardware items
  • Ability to inspect products and effectively use a computer daily
  • Ability to use engineering software programs, including AutoDesk Inventor and AutoCAD
  • Experience multitasking to meet several simultaneous project milestones
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Mechanical component design or manufacturing experience (preferred)
  • CAD software-related work (preferred)
  • Knowledge of computer equipment such as PCs, firewalls, switches, data acquisition systems, UPS, and server rack equipment (preferred)
  • May require lifting up to 25 lbs and standing for extended periods during product testing
