About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Independently manage an assigned portfolio of delinquent first mortgage, home equity, and other real estate-secured accounts
  • Conduct timely outbound and inbound member contact and determine appropriate next actions
  • Secure payments, establish payment arrangements, monitor commitments, and complete broken-promise follow-up
  • Prioritize higher-risk, higher-balance, aging, and time-sensitive accounts
  • Maintain account ownership and follow-through through cure, workout, foreclosure, recovery, or documented resolution
  • Identify and document causes of delinquency and evaluate financial circumstances and repayment capacity
  • Complete hardship intake and process loan modifications, forbearance plans, repayment plans, and other loss-mitigation options
  • Perform foreclosure and default work, including notices, deadlines, referral documentation, and legal milestone follow-up
  • Complete bankruptcy-related account administration and coordinate legal questions with counsel
  • Address delinquent property tax, insurance, collateral-protection, valuation, lien, and property-condition matters
  • Complete secondary-market and investor-specific default and servicing requirements
  • Coordinate with Mortgage Servicing, Legal, outside counsel, investors, and approved vendors
  • Document contacts, financial information, commitments, notices, approvals, restrictions, decisions, referrals, and next actions
  • Complete worklists, queues, follow-up, processing, notices, and reporting within required timeframes
  • Identify workflow and portfolio trends and recommend opportunities to reduce losses and improve portfolio quality
  • Support cross-training, onboarding, backup coverage, quality initiatives, and process improvement

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 3 to 5 years of progressively responsible experience in collections, mortgage servicing, real estate default, loan servicing, or asset recovery
  • Experience independently managing delinquent accounts and resolving complex member or borrower situations is required
  • High school diploma or GED is required
  • Strong understanding of collections practices, delinquency management, payment arrangements, and account resolution
  • Ability to review financial information, identify material facts, evaluate repayment capacity, and recognize when formal approval is necessary
  • Strong organization, time management, attention to detail, documentation, and follow-through
  • Effective oral and written communication and ability to manage difficult member conversations professionally
  • Ability to work independently across Real Estate collection and default responsibilities within documented training and authority
  • Proficiency with standard office technology and ability to learn collection, servicing, communication, and workflow systems
  • Working knowledge of applicable collections and mortgage-servicing requirements, loss mitigation, foreclosure, bankruptcy restrictions, property-tax and collateral matters, and investor requirements
  • Ability to sit for long periods, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and talk or hear
  • Occasional ability to walk, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and lift or move up to 25 pounds
