About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide BRASS Enhancement 1 engineering support for implementation across NATO Nations
- Characterize BLOS AP use cases and define configuration baselines
- Prepare and maintain technical documentation containing STANAG 5066 protocol-stack parameters and configurations
- Analyze STANAG 4538 and STANAG 5066 implementations and document edition-related configuration discrepancies
- Optimize configuration baselines and maintain version control and configuration management
- Set up test environments using back-to-back modems, HF channel simulators, laboratory equipment, and over-the-air transmission
- Develop testing approaches and validation plans; perform technical testing and interoperability validation
- Troubleshoot STANAG 5066 interfaces and IP-over-HF interoperability challenges
- Analyze test results, identify risks and inconsistencies, and recommend corrective actions
- Develop and update Service Instructions for BRIPES information services, including formal messaging, e-mail, chat, and web services
- Perform engineering assessments and provide recommendations for harmonized multinational implementation
- Coordinate with NCIA technical authorities, NATO stakeholders, SHAPE, and participating Nations
- Prepare technical reports, engineering analyses, implementation guidance, briefings, presentations, and meeting minutes
- Participate in monthly sprint planning, weekly progress meetings, sprint reviews, technical meetings, workshops, demonstrations, experiments, and validation activities
- Submit sprint performance reports and monthly service performance reports, including KPI evidence, risks, issues, and mitigation actions
- Travel to NATO locations when requested and authorized
Requirements
What you’ll need- Valid NATO-SECRET Personal Security Clearance for the duration of the Period of Performance
- University Degree in Telecommunications, Electronics, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field, with at least two years of post-related experience; or Higher Vocational Training with a minimum of five years of post-related experience
- Minimum of two years of practical experience in engineering, implementation, configuration, or support of military or secure communications systems
- Solid scientific background and proven technical management experience in IP over HF services based on STANAG 5066
- Knowledge of STANAG 5066 Editions 3 and 4, including protocol stack, implementation, and interoperability aspects
- Knowledge of STANAG 4538 and STANAG 4539
- Knowledge of interfacing commercial and/or open-source application clients with STANAG 5066, including formal messaging, e-mail, chat, and web services
- Expertise developing STANAG 5066-based testbeds and test setups
- Experience performing interoperability testing in international forums using STANAG 5066 testbeds, including coordinating scenarios and reporting analysis
- Knowledge of STANAG 5066 use cases in the NATO Maritime Forces domain
- Strong knowledge of IP networking principles, communication protocols, network architectures, protocol stack configuration, and interoperability
- Experience preparing technical documentation, engineering specifications, implementation guidance, or Service Instructions for communication systems
- Experience testing, validating, and troubleshooting communication systems and implementing corrective actions
- Good understanding of interoperability principles, configuration management, and engineering practices in multinational or multi-vendor environments
- Familiarity with NATO communications standards, STANAGs, and secure communications architectures
- Understanding of NATO operational standards, procedures, and communication protocols
- Experience supporting engineering activities for military communication systems, technical documentation, interoperability, or communication-service implementation
- Strong analytical capability for technical assessments, interoperability analysis, testing, validation, and engineering activities
- English language proficiency at minimum C1 level, with effective written and oral communication and ability to produce high-quality technical reports for NATO circulation
- Strong communication, interpersonal, analytical, problem-solving, adaptability, and collaboration skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and engage constructively with stakeholders
