About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Grow and develop a profitable, diversified Accident & Health insurance book
Source submissions, underwrite, price, market, and manage Accident & Health insurance business and territories
Meet and negotiate with clients and brokers to build relationships and develop new and renewal business in the Netherlands and Belgium
Build a well-diversified and balanced book by risk profile and segmentation
Participate in developing underwriting strategies
Analyze underwriting information and secure appropriate terms and conditions
Negotiate contracts, attend and travel to client meetings, present to customers, and conduct underwriting reviews
Promote the Sompo brand and increase recognition in the Netherlands, Belgium, and Europe
Develop, launch, and maintain local-language product versions for the Netherlands and Belgium
Monitor local market and product developments
Manage underwriting document filings, data-entry accuracy, and contract integrity
Assist in training and technically supervising Accident & Health staff

Requirements

What you’ll need

10+ years of experience working in underwriting and (senior) management positions in Accident & Health in the Netherlands and Belgium
Experience in building and growing a profitable Accident & Health Insurance book
Proven disciplined approach to underwriting
In-depth knowledge of the Accident & Health Insurance markets, regulation and products
In-depth product knowledge and past underwriting experience in Accident, Travel Accident, Private Medical Insurance, and International Private Medical Insurance products, including Group and Individual products
Excellent networking skills and relationships with clients and brokers
Experience with a start-up company or development of new business and/or new products is a plus
Analytical, energetic, creative, meticulous, driven, determined self-starter, smart, hardworking, resilient, ambitious, good team player
Good interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with HR, Finance, Actuarial, Legal, Compliance, Operations, IT and Claims stakeholders
Strong presentation and negotiation skills
Flexibility and willingness to travel and offer top service quality
Dutch and English at working level; French is a plus
