About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Support the Engineering and Production departments of Sumter Metal Products
Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and assembly details for fabrication
Manage or assist in engineering and fabrication of Motive Power trays, layouts, components, and accessories
Provide drafting and CAM support using AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and Windchill
Create and revise materials, BOMs, and routings for entry into SAP
Manage EOS L4 and 5Why tags within the Engineering area and keep HeyDo current and relevant
Collaborate with designers, engineers, and technicians
Assist with production development, design criteria, product improvement, and process improvement projects
Gather, organize, and analyze data for engineering-sponsored projects, including prototype builds, new products, and new process introduction
Provide technical assistance to Management, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Quality, and other Sumter Metals team members
Provide support functions for local Engineering, Corporate, and Materials teams
Work with coordinators in Focus Area Meetings and Cock Walks to identify DFx opportunities
Manage Engineering Workflow, the Engineering Custom Order Report, and material creation for engineering requests
Control DFm/DFx and E-100 inputs with all documentation
Create standards and update manufacturing instructions

Requirements

What you’ll need

Two year degree or equivalent certification or 4-years experience in design engineering or design-related engineering
Proven work history of AutoCad, drafting, and SolidWorks knowledge and exposure
Above average computer skills in Microsoft Office Software
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, assembly details, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals
Sheet Metal, Metal working or Fabrication Experience needed
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
Effective oral and written communication skills
Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations and use formulas involving area, circumference, and volume
Ability to understand and apply basic algebra and geometry
Ability to apply common sense understanding and deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
Ability to work in a plant/warehouse environment with varying working conditions
SAP experience preferred for creating materials, BOMs, and routings; training in CAM software available
