About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Travel to customer sites to evaluate, diagnose, install, repair, and perform preventative maintenance on flooded and sealed batteries, chargers, and DC power distribution equipment
- Develop and conduct safe-equipment-operation training for team members and customers
- Perform preventative maintenance inspections and record data
- Replace defective parts, reassemble batteries, and fuse lead parts with a gas torch
- Diagnose and repair battery charging equipment
- Build batteries in the shop when required
- Remove and disassemble cells and inspect parts for defects
- Fill cells with acid solution and determine specific gravity when required in the shop
- Water, wash, clean, and neutralize customer batteries at customer locations
- Operate material-handling equipment in accordance with OSHA requirements
- Install new or modified equipment at customer facilities according to specifications
- Inspect and analyze findings to identify problems and recommend repairs, replacements, or corrective actions
- Coordinate problem resolution with technical support, customer service, sales, and other personnel
- Provide on-site technical assistance for equipment troubleshooting and repair
- Maintain performance reports and customer/service records
- Act as a communication link between customers and the company
- Download battery and charger data via monitoring devices and use it to correct equipment problems
- Maintain a safe, orderly, and clean work environment
- Follow warranty, safety, environmental, OSHA, DOT Hazmat, and ISO9000 policies and procedures
- Undertake overnight travel for training, company meetings, customer service calls, and other supervisor-directed circumstances
Requirements
What you’ll need- One to two years’ industry related experience; or equivalent combination of technical education and industry experience
- Ability to read, write, analyze, and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations
- Ability to write reports and business correspondence
- Ability to present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the general public
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts using basic algebra and geometry
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
- Ability to interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form
- Must complete EnerSys Canada Inc. Service Representative Training Course within 6 to 12 months
- Must complete forklift training
- Must have a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record
- Must be at least 25 years of age to drive a company vehicle
- Must be able and willing to undertake overnight travel
- Must be able and willing to operate a forklift
- Must pass the company’s driving requirements
- Must be able to frequently bend, twist, reach, stoop, kneel, or crouch
- Must be able to differentiate colors
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds/23 kilos daily on a continuous basis
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time
- Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment
- Must be able and willing to be on-call, wear a respirator, and work overtime
- Must be able and willing to work varying schedules, including nights, weekends, and public holidays
- Must be able and willing to work in plant/warehouse environments with exposure to electrical shock, lead/fiberglass products, fumes, chemicals, and varying temperatures
- Periodic blood tests are required to measure lead exposure
