About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Perform in-shop and field service work
  • Plan and coordinate equipment installation and resolution of customer technical problems
  • Travel daily to customer sites to install, repair, and perform preventive maintenance on flooded and sealed batteries, chargers, and DC power distribution equipment
  • Develop and conduct safe-equipment-operation training for team members and customers
  • Inspect batteries, chargers, battery-handling equipment, and battery changing/charging areas; record data
  • Replace defective parts, reassemble batteries, and fuse lead parts with a gas torch
  • Determine solution specific gravity
  • Water, wash, clean, and neutralize customers’ batteries at customer locations
  • Install equipment at customer facilities according to specifications
  • Provide on-site technical troubleshooting and repair assistance
  • Maintain performance reports and provide a communication link between customers and the company
  • Download battery and charger data via monitoring devices and use it to correct problems
  • Report occasionally to the local EnerSys Service Center for mandatory training, inventory, and parts pickup/drop-off
  • Perform other assigned duties

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High school diploma or equivalent; or industry-related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office and the Internet
  • Basic mechanical aptitude
  • Previous customer service experience in field support
  • Ability to read with comprehension and write customer correspondence, memos, and reports in English
  • Ability to perform basic math and solve simple equations
  • Ability to work flexible hours and respond to after-hours service calls
  • Valid driver’s license and safe driving record with minimal traffic violations
  • Ability and willingness to travel to customer sites and perform overnight travel
  • Maximum of 5 days per month of overnight travel; frequent overnight travel during the 6–8 week training period
  • At least 18 years of age to drive a company vehicle; nonregulated/CDL vehicles require 21 years of age
  • Ability and willingness to operate a forklift
  • Ability to pass company driving requirements
  • Ability to frequently bend, twist, reach, stoop, kneel, or crouch
  • Ability to differentiate colors
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds/23 kilos daily and continuously
  • Ability to stand for long periods
  • Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment properly
  • Ability and willingness to be on-call, wear a respirator, work overtime, and work varying schedules including nights, weekends, and public holidays
  • Ability to work with electrical-shock risks and exposure to lead/fiberglass products
  • Periodic blood tests to measure lead levels
  • Ability to work in a plant/warehouse environment
  • Preferred: Certificate/Diploma in Mechanical, Electronics, Electrical, or related field
  • Preferred: Basic electrical understanding; use of test equipment and reading schematics; hands-on job experience; substantive electrical-field experience where applicable
