About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Repair, adjust, clean, and prepare batteries for shipment
- Replace electrical or mechanical components using hand tools, power tools, soldering, or welding equipment
- Operate machines to test parts or mechanisms
- Occasionally drive a truck to transport materials to and from specified destinations
- Remove and disassemble cells and inspect parts for defects
- Replace defective parts, reassemble batteries, and fuse lead parts with a gas torch
- Fill cells with acid solution and determine specific gravity
- Attach charger leads and start chargers
- Read meters and adjust charge parameters to control charging time and current flow
- Wash, clean, and neutralize customer batteries
- Maintain truck logs according to state and federal regulations when necessary
- Maintain telephone or radio contact with the supervisor for pickup and delivery instructions
- Maintain performance reports
- Prepare new products for shipment
- Load and unload trucks
- Travel to customer sites to evaluate, diagnose, and repair defective equipment as business needs require
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- High school diploma or equivalent; or industry related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Basic mechanical aptitude
- Previous experience working with hand and power tools
- Ability to read and comprehend manuals, procedures, and other written documents in English
- Valid driver’s license and a safe driving record with minimal traffic violations
- Must be at least 18 years of age to drive a company vehicle
- Able and willing to operate a forklift
- Able and willing to travel to customer sites when needed
- Ability to pass the company’s driving requirements
- Ability to differentiate colors
- Ability to frequently bend, twist, reach, stoop, kneel, or crouch
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds/23 kilos on a daily continuous basis
- Ability to stand for long periods of time
- Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment properly at all times
- Able and willing to be on-call
- Ability to work in a plant/warehouse environment with varying working conditions
- Preferred: basic electrical understanding
- Preferred: use of test equipment and reading schematics
- Preferred: technical degree in Engineering where/if applicable to the location
