About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide premium DB2 sysprog support and services to Ensono mainframe clients
- Perform mainframe database software upgrades, administration, and tuning
- Work with vendor personnel to resolve database problems promptly
- Perform day-to-day database maintenance, including backups, restores, file extent growth monitoring, and reorganization scheduling
- Create and maintain disaster recovery procedures
- Optimize databases through efficiency reporting, configuration analysis, and performance reviews
- Develop, support, and customize new services and support efforts
- Participate in on-call responsibilities
- Fulfill customer service orders for mainframe z/OS customers relating to DB2
- Provide primary support for problems related to DB2 tablespaces
- Provide support 24x7x365 across multiple time zones
- Support customer migration services involving DB2 and related OEM software products
- Assist project managers with newly acquired customer migrations and resolve technical hurdles
- Execute tasks associated with customer disaster recovery plans in cooperation with Disaster Recovery Services
- Manage resources and schedules for timely implementations
- Follow ITSM change control procedures
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree required and/or equivalent work experience
- 5+ years of professional experience in DB2 administration and systems programming support, including IDAA
- Knowledge of best practices in software management, maintenance, and documentation
- SMP/e experience
- Experience configuring and managing DB2 in a parallel sysplex environment
- Ability to develop innovation, strategies, processes, and best practices in software management
- Experience establishing policies and procedures for database management, disaster recovery, security, maintenance, and utilization
- Experience reviewing new DB2 versions and advising clients on their benefits
- Ability to evaluate change requests, determine client impact, and troubleshoot and solve production database issues
- Experience supporting DB2 security requests
- Ability to review DB2 security and identify potential risks
- Experience reorganizing application data
- Experience reviewing and tuning internal DB2 buffer pools and SQL code
- Ability to respond quickly and effectively to support requests from multiple clients
- Ability to support multiple customers during after-hours on-call
- Self-motivated and able to work independently
- Ability to multitask and work under short deadlines and in high-pressure situations
- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation communication skills
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
