About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Perform mainframe database Software upgrades, administration, and tuning for customers’ Software AG ADABAS environments
  • Work with vendor personnel to achieve timely solutions to database problems
  • Perform day-to-day database maintenance, including database definition changes, backups, and restores
  • Monitor space growth and conduct database reorganizations
  • Create and maintain disaster recovery procedures
  • Support customer needs and requests
  • Perform database optimization, performance reviews, and tuning
  • Support new client onboarding
  • Provide 24x7 on-call support in a scheduled rotation
  • Maintain documentation for completed tasks
  • Adhere to change management policy
  • Report to the Senior Manager - Mainframe Database

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree required and/or equivalent work experience
  • 10+ years of professional experience in Software AG ADABAS/Natural and related products for administration and systems programming support
  • Extensive experience with Software management, maintenance, and documentation
  • Ability to configure and manage Software AG ADABAS and related products such as Natural
  • Expertise in ADABAS database administration, NATURAL Security, and Fast Path
  • Database design experience
  • Experience defining FDT and DDMs
  • Performance tuning experience
  • Experience using ADABAS utilities such as Delta Save Facility, ADABAS Utilities, Natural utilities, SMA, Program Migration tool, and Review
  • Knowledge of log archive and change accumulation utilities
  • Knowledge of ADARUN parameters and buffer pools
  • Knowledge of protection logging and command logging
  • Experience establishing database management, disaster recovery, product and database security, maintenance, and utilization policies and procedures
  • Experience reviewing new versions of Software AG ADABAS and related products
  • Vendor relationship management and problem resolution
  • Experience applying licenses, ZAPs, and service packs for Software AG products
  • Experience cooperating with Disaster Recovery Services and executing customer disaster recovery plans
  • Experience supporting planned and unplanned database recovery activities
  • Production database troubleshooting and issue resolution
  • Performance issue identification and resolution
  • ADABAS/Natural database administration and customization
  • Experience with batch and online Software AG ADABAS/Natural
  • Database space and performance monitoring
  • Experience in large, 24x7 multi-database environments
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation communication skills
  • Ability to respond quickly to support requests from multiple clients
  • Ability to follow ITSM change control procedures
  • Ability to multitask under short deadlines and high-pressure situations
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
