About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Perform mainframe database software upgrades, administration, and tuning for customers’ Software AG ADABAS environments.
  • Work with vendor personnel to achieve timely solutions to database problems.
  • Perform day-to-day database maintenance, including database definition changes, backups and restores, space-growth monitoring, and database reorganizations.
  • Create and maintain disaster recovery procedures.
  • Support customer needs and requests.
  • Perform database optimization, performance reviews, and tuning.
  • Support new client onboarding.
  • Provide 24x7 on-call support as part of a scheduled team rotation.
  • Maintain documentation for completed tasks.
  • Adhere to change management policies.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree required and/or equivalent work experience.
  • 10+ years of professional experience in Software AG ADABAS/Natural and related products for administration and systems programming support.
  • Extensive experience with Software management, maintenance, and documentation.
  • Ability to configure and manage Software AG ADABAS and related products such as Natural.
  • Subject-matter expertise in ADABAS database administration, NATURAL Security, and Fast Path.
  • Experience with database design, FDTs, DDMs, and performance tuning.
  • Experience using ADABAS utilities such as Delta Save Facility, ADABAS Utilities, Natural utilities, SMA, Program Migration tool, and Review.
  • Knowledge of log archive and change accumulation utilities.
  • Knowledge of ADARUN parameters and buffer pools.
  • Knowledge of protection logging and command logging.
  • Experience establishing database management, disaster recovery, product and database security, maintenance, and utilization policies and procedures.
  • Experience reviewing new versions of Software AG ADABAS and related products.
  • Experience managing vendor relations and resolving problems and questions.
  • Experience applying licenses, ZAPs, and service packs for Software AG products.
  • Experience supporting disaster recovery and emergency database recovery activities.
  • Experience troubleshooting production database issues and resolving performance issues.
  • Database administration and customization of ADABAS/Natural.
  • Experience with batch and online Software AG ADABAS/Natural.
  • Experience monitoring database space and performance.
  • Experience in large, 24x7 multi-database environments and ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation communication skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently.
  • Ability to respond quickly and effectively to support requests from multiple clients.
  • Ability to follow ITSM change control procedures.
  • Ability to multitask and work under short deadlines and in high-pressure situations.
