About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Perform mainframe database software upgrades, administration and tuning for customers’ CA Datacom environments
  • Optimize databases and conduct database performance reviews and tuning
  • Support new client onboarding
  • Work with vendor personnel to achieve timely solutions to database problems
  • Perform day-to-day database maintenance, including database definition changes, backups and restores, space-growth monitoring and database reorganizations
  • Create and maintain disaster recovery procedures
  • Provide overall support for customer needs and requests
  • Participate in scheduled 24x7 on-call support rotation
  • Maintain documentation for completed tasks
  • Adhere to change management policy
  • Configure, administer and customize CA Datacom and related products
  • Develop database-management, security, maintenance and utilization policies and procedures
  • Review new product versions and advise clients on their benefits
  • Troubleshoot production database issues and resolve performance problems
  • Support planned and emergency database recovery activities

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree required and/or equivalent work experience
  • 10+ years of professional experience in CA Datacom and related products for administration and systems programming support
  • Experience in a large, 24x7 environment and the ability to manage competing priorities
  • Demonstrated ability to respond quickly and effectively to support requests from multiple clients
  • After hours on-call support
  • Ability to write, debug and tune SQL
  • Previous experience in a CA Datacom environment required
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently
  • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal and presentations)
  • Ability to work as part of a team and assist teammates when needed
  • System programming knowledge of multiple DBMS’s is a bonus
  • Extensive experience with best practices of software management, maintenance and documentation
  • Experience configuring and managing CA Datacom, CA Datacom CICS Services, CA Datacom Server, CA Ideal, CA Dataquery, VSAM Transparency and CA IPC
  • Experience developing strategies, processes and best practices in CA Datacom systems programming
  • Experience establishing policies and procedures for database management, disaster recovery, product and database security, maintenance and utilization
  • Experience reviewing new versions of CA Datacom and related products
  • Experience with disaster recovery of system and application databases
  • Experience troubleshooting and solving production database issues
  • Experience identifying and resolving performance issues
  • Experience administering and customizing CA Datacom, CA Dataquery, CA Datacom CICS Services, CA Ideal and CA IPC
  • Database design and experience with batch and online CA Datadictionary
  • Database monitoring using CA Sysview
  • Coding and usage of CA Datacom and related product utilities
  • Support for planned and unplanned database recovery activities
