About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide premium software support and services to Ensono mainframe clients relating to Mainframe IMS systems
  • Fulfill customer service requests for mainframe z/OS customers concerning IMS and related OEM software products
  • Provide primary support for reported IMS and related OEM software product problems
  • Provide support on a 24 x 7 x 365 basis across multiple time zones
  • Install OEM software products efficiently according to best practices and Ensono standards
  • Support customer migration services for IMS and related OEM software products
  • Assist project managers with newly acquired customer migrations and resolve technical hurdles
  • Execute tasks associated with customer disaster recovery plans in cooperation with Disaster Recovery Services
  • Manage schedules and resources for timely implementations
  • Follow ITSM change control procedures
  • Review new IMS versions and advise clients on their benefits
  • Consult with vendors regarding problems and questions
  • Perform disaster recovery of application objects
  • Use IMS commands related to ACB and FORMAT changes
  • Code and use IMS reorganization utilities including IBM, BMC, and CA tools
  • Identify and resolve performance issues
  • Perform online tracing using IMS TRACE commands and associated utilities
  • Install software using SMP/E
  • Extract information from IMS logs
  • Monitor database activity using DBRC

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree required and/or equivalent work experience
  • 10+ years of professional experience in IMS for administration and systems programming support
  • Knowledge in best practices of software management, maintenance and documentation
  • Ability to configure and manage IMS in a parallel sysplex environment
  • Ability to develop innovation, strategies, processes and best practices in IMS systems programming
  • Experience troubleshooting and solving IMS system, database, and production database issues
  • Experience evaluating change requests and determining impact to assigned clients
  • Strong JCL skills
  • Database administration experience
  • Knowledge of IMS database organization using VSAM and OSAM access methods
  • Knowledge of HSAM, HISAM, SHISAM, HDAM, HIDAM, INDEX, and GSAM database organization types
  • Knowledge of logical databases including HALDB, PHDAM, PHIDAM, ILDS, and PSINDEX
  • Knowledge of Fast Path databases (DEDBs)
  • Database design and related utilities knowledge
  • DBD source coding and DBDGEN
  • PSB source coding and PSBGEN
  • Knowledge of secondary indexes, PROCSEQ=, PROCOPT=, path calls, bi-directional logical relationships, and Data Set Groups
  • CA and IBM tools for IMS are a plus
