About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Manage, direct, and coordinate safe and efficient operation of household hazardous waste programs
  • Interface directly with customers to ensure proper event and collection center management and contract compliance
  • Coordinate collections, including transportation, equipment setup, equipment rentals, hotel reservations, staffing, payroll, and recruiting
  • Assist customer service with customer profiles and Master Drum Lists for shipping documents
  • Create draft invoices to expedite customer-service invoicing
  • Answer technical questions from collection center staff, including during odd hours
  • Maintain communication with internal operations and transportation
  • Review project profitability after completion
  • Comply with company policies and procedures
  • Provide training presentations to customers on proper event operations
  • Assist the HHW Business Development Manager with marketing through trade shows and regional meetings
  • Make sales calls on manufacturing and industrial waste generators during the off season
  • Coach and develop managers, supervisors, and employees through continuous feedback
  • Conduct performance appraisals for direct reports
  • Recommend salary adjustments, promotions, transfers, and dismissals
  • Participate in recruiting and hiring service center employees and drivers
  • Conduct regular team meetings on issues, changes, and developments
  • Provide on-the-job training and ensure training compliance
  • Provide technical support and assist with technical training content development and deployment
  • Maintain personal protective equipment compliance
  • Communicate and train on safety protocols and compliance measures

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or Environmental Sciences preferred
  • Experience managing or working household hazardous waste events
  • Experience in Material Management waste disposal options preferred
  • 5+ years of experience with an environmental services provider
  • CDL Class B license preferred
  • HAZWOPER 24- or 40-hour certification or ability to obtain
  • Knowledge of applicable regulations and codes as they apply to the waste industry
  • General knowledge of RCRA and DOT regulations preferred
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office software suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Excellent verbal, written, and organizational skills
  • Ability to consider out-of-the-box solutions
  • Must be able to pass a DEA background check when relevant
  • Required to wear company-provided personal protective equipment
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted
  • Must be willing to travel for weekend projects
  • Must be able to work 10 to 12 hours during collection events
  • Must be able to work in non-climate-controlled environments
