About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide global mechanical engineering direction for Equinix designs through continued development of Reference Designs
  • Evaluate new products and engineering approaches for incorporation into mature Reference Designs
  • Support Regional Design teams with Reference Design implementation
  • Provide subject matter expertise to the Major Capital Equipment team for portfolio-wide mechanical equipment procurement
  • Engage key customers to understand evolving design requirements and direct Reference Design configurations
  • Lead the design process with Architectural, MEP and other design partners for datacenter projects
  • Develop standardized tools, techniques and processes for design management and reporting
  • Drive consistency and technical excellence with peers across regions
  • Conduct master planning for expansion portfolios using global design standards and templates
  • Generate project visualizations, initial models and cost estimates for business case inception
  • Coordinate with regional, commercial management, procurement, operations and construction teams
  • Prepare regional- and customer-specific Reference Design configurations
  • Maintain relationships with internal technical staff and external design, construction and commercial partners
  • Manage internal and external resources through influence and technical expertise
  • Evaluate and support selection of mechanical equipment and provide lifecycle support
  • Support xScale and Global Account Management customer design discussions
  • Indirectly manage engineering staff in Independent Technical Reviews
  • Manage design schedules, budgets and change management for assigned projects
  • Ensure timely creation and review of BODs, REIC submissions and IFP/IFC design documentation
  • Manage Reference Design external consultant teams
  • Manage and document customer technical requirements and accommodations
  • Ensure designs meet Global Design Standards and business needs for capacity, density and function
  • Use design review findings and best practices to inform Reference Design development
  • Own the Mechanical discipline of the Reference Design and its equipment technical-submittal repository
  • Identify opportunities to scale early-stage design tools and processes

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 7+ years’ experience in a Design MEP Firm or in the design team of a Mission Critical Building operator or Subcontractor, OR 7+ years’ experience as an Architectural lead in a Mission Critical Architectural Design Practice
  • Pan-global experience of local mechanical design/construction practice highly desirable
  • Experience and electrical code/regulation/law familiarity in AMER, EMEA and APAC regions ideal
  • Advanced Degree (Masters) in Mechanical Engineering preferred
  • Bachelor's Degree acceptable or extensive and demonstrable experience in role
  • PE, CEng or local equivalent desirable but not essential
  • Spoken and written English proficiency essential
  • Additional languages strongly desirable
  • Experience of design requirements of major customers highly desirable
