About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Design, build, and operate scalable backend systems, services, and APIs
- Translate complex business requirements into practical, performant, and maintainable system designs
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to introduce and enhance product capabilities
- Provide technical leadership to engineers evolving product features
- Develop software for large-scale cloud services with simplicity, reliability, maintainability, and operability
- Establish development and operational standard methodologies through direct contribution
- Participate in continuous improvement of software development lifecycle processes and systems
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex distributed-system issues
- Champion API-first design principles and governance standards
- Ensure REST and gRPC interfaces are secure, uniform, documented, and developer-friendly
- Participate in on-call rotation and own incident response, including triage, mitigation, and root-cause analysis
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree or equivalent with 5+ years of experience in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field of education
- Experience with distributed systems at scale
- Experience developing distributed, scalable, and highly available services with clean APIs using gRPC or HTTP
- Understanding of networking and software-defined networking
- Deep analytical and problem-solving skills
- Experience with Go or Ruby/Ruby on Rails, with willingness to learn other languages
- Experience with CI/CD and testing automation
- Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and other container services
- Experience with Agile practices including Scrum, JIRA, peer review, Git, and CI/CD
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to document solutions and create architectural diagrams
- Ability to think strategically and execute with urgency
- Familiarity with at least one traditional SQL database; PostgreSQL highly preferred
- Hardware management knowledge or understanding of automatic server bootstrapping in a data center
- Experience contributing to Open Source and interacting with Open Source communities is a plus
- Familiarity with AI-powered developer tools
