About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Settle claims within limits of authority under minimal supervision
- Process first-party automobile, third-party clear-liability automobile and low-severity property claims
- Contact policyholders and/or claimants
- Verify coverage and set reserves
- Set up and/or issue payments using ERIE’s approved payment methods
- Establish contact with all parties involved in claims according to ERIE’s expectations
- Handle inquiries from policyholders, agents, insurance carriers, claimants and others
- Enter loss information into the claims system
- Prepare correspondence, forms and related materials
- Regularly review pending claims and activities
- Provide support for property claims during periods of heavy volume
- Follow other job-related instructions and perform additional duties requested by the supervisor
Requirements
What you’ll need- High school diploma or GED and one year of related claims handling, customer service, or clerical experience required
- Equivalent educational experience required
- Appropriate state licensing must be obtained within 45 days of employment for external applicants or 90 days for internal applicants
- Pursuit of general insurance education preferred
- Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree preferred
- Frequent manual keying, data entry, inputting information and computer use (50–80%)
- Ability to drive rarely
- Ability to climb/access heights rarely
- Ability to move over 50 lbs using lifting aide equipment rarely
- Ability to lift/move 0–20 lbs rarely
- Ability to lift/move 20–50 lbs rarely
- Ability to push, pull or move wheeled objects/equipment rarely
