About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Recruit, present and sell the ERIE Agency Career to prospective Agents and producers
  • Select, hire, train and develop new independent Agents into self-supporting company representatives
  • Influence independent Agents to sell ERIE products and services
  • Train Agents on products, underwriting, servicing and Agency operations
  • Oversee Policyholder, Agent and claimant complaints and inquiries
  • Address underperforming Agents and hold them accountable for contractual performance
  • Develop and maintain expertise in ERIE commercial, personal and life products, IT tools and sales resources
  • Provide local-level input for rate reviews
  • Act as a field underwriter for extraordinary property and casualty risks within binding authority limits
  • Resolve Agents' sales and customer service problems with branch and home office staff
  • Communicate new initiatives and changes to independent Agents
  • Implement customer service, marketing, sales and underwriting best practices at the Agency level
  • Sponsor and manage district and Agency sales contests, promotions and incentives
  • Sell ERIE products and services to customers and prospects as a licensed, non-commission company Agent
  • Advise Agents and staff on industry trends and Agency-level sales and marketing problems and opportunities
  • Develop and implement Agency and district business plans and budgets
  • Achieve annual P/C and EFL sales objectives, profitability goals and market-share targets
  • Assess Agency performance trends and results
  • Conduct reviews of underwriting, re-underwriting, profitability and compliance results
  • Partner with Agents on corrective action when necessary

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent of four years of sales, underwriting, claims or marketing experience, required
  • Three years of sales, underwriting, claims or marketing experience OR participation in DSM Training Program required
  • Must live in the assigned territory unless a change is approved by the company
  • Understanding of and commitment to ERIE's “Above All in Service” philosophy required
  • Extensive local travel, including overnight stays, required
  • Proficiency with spreadsheet, word processing and e-mail software required
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record required
  • Related industry designations, such as CIC, CPCU, CLU, preferred
  • Regular and predictable attendance required
  • Ability to perform the listed physical requirements, including driving, lifting/moving objects and computer use
