About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Handle property claims within designated level of authority
  • Contact policyholders regarding property claims
  • Conduct investigations, interview insureds and witnesses, inspect damage, and prepare estimates
  • Evaluate coverage and total claim value; determine payments and issue or decline payment
  • Set and maintain adequate reserves
  • Obtain and review reports, statements, records, and related materials
  • Document claim files and submit final reports for closure
  • Identify subrogation situations and initiate appropriate action
  • Service assigned territory and bring claims to conclusion
  • Interact with agents and district sales managers
  • Handle property claims involving damage or coverage, including potentially litigated claims
  • Negotiate with plaintiff attorneys or coordinate litigation with defense counsel
  • Develop and apply knowledge of property-claim estimating practices and procedures
  • Attend industry-related and other training sessions
  • Successfully complete Technical Learning Center Training within one year of hire
  • Participate on the Catastrophe Team when required
  • Complete the 15-week Property Adjuster Trainee program, including classroom, hands-on, and field training in Erie, PA

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School Diploma or GED and two years of claims handling experience, or equivalent required
  • High School Diploma or GED and successful completion of ERIE sponsored formal education
  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Incumbent must live in assigned territory unless a change is approved by the company
  • Must serve on catastrophe duty, including possible short-notice travel to other locations for periods exceeding two consecutive weeks
  • Willingness to pursue and complete Technical Learning Center Training required
  • Successful completion of AIC 33 and AIC 35 preferred
  • Willingness to obtain and maintain any required licenses
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record required
  • Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required
  • Ability to move over 50 lbs using lifting aide equipment
  • Ability to climb/access heights
  • Frequent driving capability
  • Ability to lift/move 0–20 lbs and 20–50 lbs
  • Manual keying, data entry, information input, and computer use
  • Ability to push, pull, and move wheeled objects/equipment
  • Regular and predictable attendance required
