  • Exercise independent discretion or judgment in handling all types of property claims
  • Conduct investigations and interviews and inspect damage at claim sites
  • Drive to sites of damage within the assigned territory or elsewhere when required
  • Prepare estimates and recommendations
  • Handle coverage questions and litigation
  • Set and maintain reserves
  • Review reports and related materials

  • Assist the claims supervisor or act on the supervisor's behalf, including representing the company at legal proceedings
  • Complete industry-related training and remain informed about policy changes, interpretation, and new legislation
  • Assist in training new claims adjusters
  • Participate on the Catastrophe Team when required
  • Attend classroom and hands-on training in Erie, Pennsylvania as part of the Property Adjuster Trainee program
  • Apply training to claims alongside mentors and supervisors

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Property Adjuster Trainee: High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Property Adjuster I: High school diploma or GED and two years of claims handling experience, or equivalent; or high school diploma or GED and successful completion of ERIE-sponsored formal education; or bachelor's degree required
  • Property Adjuster II: High school diploma or GED and five years of claims handling experience, or equivalent; or bachelor's degree and two years of claims handling experience, or equivalent
  • Incumbent must live in the assigned territory unless a change is approved by the company
  • Ability to drive/travel regularly within the assigned territory
  • Willingness to pursue and complete Technical Learning Center Training required
  • Willingness to obtain and maintain any required licenses
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record required
  • Ability to serve on catastrophe duty, including short-notice travel to other locations for periods exceeding two consecutive weeks
  • Use of personal protective equipment required
  • Ability to move over 50 lbs using lifting aide equipment
  • Ability to climb/access heights
  • Frequent driving and regular lifting/moving of objects
  • Manual keying, data entry, inputting information, and computer use
