About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Exercise independent discretion or judgment in handling all types of property claims
  • Assist or act on behalf of the claims supervisor when required
  • Conduct investigations and interviews
  • Inspect damage by driving to damage sites within the assigned territory or elsewhere as required
  • Prepare estimates and recommendations
  • Handle coverage questions and litigation
  • Set and maintain reserves

  • Represent the company at legal proceedings when required
  • Complete industry-related training and remain informed about policy changes, interpretation, and legislation
  • Assist in training new claims adjusters
  • Participate on the Catastrophe Team when required
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High school diploma or equivalent required for Property Adjuster Trainee
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred for Property Adjuster Trainee
  • Property Adjuster I: High School Diploma or GED and two years of claims handling experience, or equivalent; or High School Diploma or GED and successful completion of ERIE-sponsored formal education; or Bachelor’s Degree
  • Property Adjuster II: High School Diploma or GED and five years of claims handling experience, or equivalent; or Bachelor’s Degree and two years of claims handling experience, or equivalent
  • Must live in the assigned territory unless a change is approved by the company
  • Willingness to pursue and complete Technical Learning Center Training required
  • Successful completion of AIC 33 and AIC 35 preferred
  • Willingness to obtain and maintain any required licenses
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record required
  • Ability to drive/travel regularly within the assigned territory
  • Must serve on catastrophe duty, including possible short-notice travel to other locations for periods exceeding two consecutive weeks
  • Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required
  • Ability to move over 50 lbs using lifting aide equipment
  • Ability to climb/access heights
  • Ability to perform frequent driving
  • Ability to lift/move 0–20 lbs and 20–50 lbs
  • Ability to perform manual keying, data entry, inputting information, and computer use
  • Ability to push/pull/move wheeled objects and equipment
