About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Handle property claims within designated authority
- Contact policyholders regarding property claims
- Conduct investigations and interview insureds and witnesses
- Inspect damage and prepare estimates
- Evaluate coverage, claim information, and total claim value
- Set and maintain adequate reserves
- Obtain and review reports, statements, records, and related materials
- Determine payments and issue checks or decline payment as required
- Document claim files and submit final reports for closure
- Identify subrogation situations and initiate appropriate action
- Service assigned territory and bring claims to conclusion
- Interact with agents and district sales managers
- Handle claims involving damage or coverage, including potentially litigated claims
- Negotiate with plaintiff attorneys or coordinate litigation with defense counsel
- Develop and apply knowledge of property-claim estimating practices and procedures
- Attend industry-related and other training sessions
- Successfully complete Technical Learning Center Training within one year of hire
- Participate on the Catastrophe Team when required
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School Diploma or GED and two years of claims handling experience, or equivalent required
- High School Diploma or GED and successful completion of ERIE-sponsored formal education
- Bachelor’s Degree required
- Incumbent must live in the assigned territory unless a change is approved by the company
- Must serve on catastrophe duty, potentially traveling on short notice to other locations for periods exceeding two consecutive weeks
- Willingness to pursue and complete Technical Learning Center Training required
- Successful completion of AIC 33 and AIC 35 preferred
- Willingness to obtain and maintain any required licenses
- Valid driver’s license and good driving record required
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required
- Ability to move over 50 lbs using lifting aide equipment
- Ability to drive frequently and perform lifting, climbing/accessing heights, pushing/pulling, and computer/data-entry tasks
