About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Handle property claims within the designated level of authority
- Service the assigned territory and handle litigated claims when required
- Contact policyholders regarding property claims
- Conduct investigations and interview insureds and witnesses
- Inspect property damage and prepare estimates
- Evaluate claims information and make coverage recommendations
- Set and maintain adequate reserves
- Obtain and review reports, statements, records, and related materials
- Determine claim payments and issue checks or decline payment as required
- Document claim files and submit final reports for closure
- Identify subrogation situations and initiate appropriate action
- Bring assigned claims to conclusion
- Interact with agents and district sales managers
- Negotiate with plaintiff attorneys or coordinate litigation with defense counsel as required
- Develop and apply knowledge of estimating practices and procedures for property claims
- Attend industry-related and other training sessions
- Successfully complete Technical Learning Center Training within one year of hire
- Participate on the Catastrophe Team when required
- Conduct daily property inspections while operating from a home office
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School Diploma or GED and two years of claims handling experience, or equivalent required
- High School Diploma or GED and successful completion of ERIE sponsored formal education
- Bachelor’s Degree required
- Incumbent must live in territory assigned unless a change is approved by the company
- Ability to drive/travel regularly within the assigned territory
- Position requires catastrophe duty, including possible short-notice travel to other locations for periods exceeding two consecutive weeks
- Willingness to pursue and complete Technical Learning Center Training required
- Successful completion of AIC 33 and AIC 35 preferred
- Willingness to obtain and maintain any required licenses
- Valid driver’s license and good driving record required
- Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required
- Ability to move over 50 lbs using lifting aide equipment
- Frequent driving ability
- Regular and predictable attendance
- Good time management and organization skills preferred
- Ideally live in Central Allegheny County or surrounding areas
