About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Own transactional accounting across Australian, New Zealand, and UK entities
- Manage accounts payable across Australia, New Zealand, and UK inboxes
- Process supplier bills and answer payment-status questions
- Reconcile Xero daily and clear the AP inbox daily
- Make Airwallex coding decisions, itemise receipts, and configure card automation rules
- Raise accurate accounts receivable invoices and chase overdue payments
- Prepare and post month-end journals on schedule
- Manage supplier and customer onboarding forms, customer surveys, vendor portals, and consistent platform configuration
- Monitor systems, identify and fix issues, and document fixes
- Document accounting processes
- Migrate bill processing from Dext to Airwallex
- Build and maintain a Coding Guide
- Build a Compliance Calendar covering obligations across jurisdictions
- Manage inter-company recharges across entities
- Prepare indirect tax returns in-house, including BAS, GST, and VAT
- Prepare groundwork for the external audit
- Report to the Financial Controller in a team of two
Requirements
What you’ll need- 5+ years hands-on experience across the full ledger as an accountant, assistant accountant, or in a senior role owning AP, AR, month-end, or similar
- Deep foundational accounting knowledge and ability to identify incorrect coding
- High accuracy and ability to check and correct own work
- Xero fluency
- Comfort with Airwallex and similar tools
- Genuine AI curiosity and experience building something using AI
- Systems thinking and technology savvy
- Ability to configure software settings and learn new tools quickly
- Discretion when handling sensitive information
- Strong organisation and note-taking habits
- Service-oriented approach with fast, kind, and accurate responses
- Ability to communicate kindly and give and receive direct, honest feedback
- Ability to acknowledge mistakes, disagree and commit, ask questions, and support the wider team
- Nice to have: multi-entity or multi-currency experience
- Nice to have: GST, BAS, or VAT tax compliance background
- Nice to have: exposure to an external audit process
- Nice to have: startup, healthcare, or investor-backed experience
