About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Design and establish 2AI’s core financial architecture, including accounting systems, budgeting, forecasting, cash management, internal controls, and month-end close
  • Create AI-native accounting and finance processes to drive efficiencies
  • Build financial models, scenario plans, and organizational forecasts for strategic decision-making
  • Design, procure, and oversee a lean finance and compliance ecosystem
  • Manage outsourced accounting, audit, legal, payroll, insurance, and HR partners
  • Own the annual audit, Form 990, statutory reporting, and grant reporting obligations
  • Lead financial, legal, and compliance workstreams to establish 2AI as an independent 501(c)(3)
  • Establish entity creation, registrations, banking, payroll, benefits, insurance, and staff transfers
  • Design financial systems to support rapid international scaling and complex funding structures
  • Partner with leadership on analytically rigorous budget allocation and organizational decision-making
  • Build and own charitable registration, insurance, governance, and regulatory compliance infrastructure
  • Establish board meeting cadence, conflict-of-interest disclosures, and fiduciary orientation
  • Oversee the entire grant lifecycle, including funder-facing budgets, financial diligence, and restricted-grant compliance and spend-down
  • Serve as the primary internal point of contact for legal matters
  • Review and negotiate vendor contracts, grant agreements, MOUs, and partnership arrangements
  • Ensure IP protections for open-source assets
  • Manage risk and organizational adherence to legal and regulatory requirements

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 12+ years in finance, including time as the most senior finance leader in an organization, business unit, or country program, with accountability for a full set of books
  • Track record of building or rebuilding a finance function
  • Multi-entity, cross-border finance experience in LMIC settings
  • Experience establishing and managing finance operations in other countries and navigating local statutory, tax, and foreign contribution requirements strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with managing legal and regulatory challenges in Africa, South Asia, and the US
  • Comfort working in a lean model and managing outside providers such as counsel, accountants, auditors, brokers, and payroll providers
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Ability to translate complex financial and legal concepts clearly for board members, program staff, and funders
  • Ability to assess complex data, foresee trends, and make strategic decisions
  • CPA, JD, MBA, or equivalent professional credential strongly preferred
  • Nonprofit-specific training or certification such as CGAP or CNAP is a plus
  • Experience with nonprofit finance, compliance, and 501(c)(3) environments strongly preferred
  • Experience with Form 990, single audit, charitable solicitation registration, IRS rebuttable presumption, and state-level tax exemptions preferred
  • Ability to work across strategy and execution
  • Curiosity and creativity with AI tools, including a testing mindset and eagerness to experiment with emerging technologies
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
