About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Lead the design, development, and delivery of the agent-to-human handoff experience
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to front-end engineers
Oversee the full front-end development lifecycle from concept through deployment and maintenance
Collaborate with product managers, UX designers, clinical stakeholders, and engineers to prioritize work and deliver features
Define React and Next.js architecture, component boundaries, caching standards, and read-your-writes behavior
Establish self-hosting standards for Next.js containers on AKS
Define BFF patterns and integrations with .NET/C# and Python/FastAPI services
Partner on design tokens and Material-based themes
Own npm supply-chain controls and dependency scanning
Conduct code reviews and enforce coding, accessibility, and security standards
Lead framework and library upgrades, including Next.js migrations
Architect streaming interfaces using SSE, Vercel AI SDK, assistant-ui, CopilotKit, and AG-UI
Define AG-UI event contracts, shared state, frontend tools, and approval interrupts
Design human-in-the-loop approval, modification, override, and audit workflows
Establish handling for slow, interrupted, or failed agent calls
Lead delivery of data-heavy grids, document viewers, rich-text editors, and workflow wizards
Ensure WCAG 2.1/2.2 AA and Section 508 conformance
Instrument the front end with OpenTelemetry
Use and evaluate AI-assisted engineering tools while ensuring quality, security, compliance, and privacy
Contribute reusable AI prompts, agents, playbooks, and development patterns
Follow AI, IP, security, privacy, PHI, and Responsible AI policies
Keep PHI out of browser storage, client logs, and telemetry
Participate in peer reviews and validation of AI-assisted solutions

Requirements

What you’ll need

7+ years of professional software development experience, including 4+ years building production web applications with React and TypeScript
2+ years of experience leading teams of 3+ software engineers
Deep hands-on experience with Next.js, including Server and Client Components, server-side rendering, streaming, and caching
Experience building AI or agent-driven user interfaces or equivalent streaming, real-time interfaces using Server-Sent Events or WebSockets
Experience with data-heavy enterprise screens using KendoReact or MUI
Experience with the backend-for-frontend pattern and .NET (C#) and Python (FastAPI) services
Experience implementing Entra ID (Azure AD) and OpenID Connect authentication
Expertise delivering applications meeting WCAG 2.1/2.2 AA and Section 508
Experience with Vitest or Jest, React Testing Library, and Playwright
Experience with Docker, Kubernetes (AKS preferred), GitHub Actions, and OpenTelemetry
Experience applying npm supply-chain security practices, including SBOMs, lockfile policy, and dependency scanning
Strong daily use of AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot
Excellent leadership and communication skills
Experience with Agile methodologies and globally distributed teams
Strong problem-solving skills
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
High speed internet over 10 Mbps at home
Government-issued photo ID, comprehensive background check, in-person I-9 verification, and possible drug screening prior to employment
Final interviews may require onsite attendance
Must comply with prohibition on AI tools during interviews
Preferred: Python and Pydantic AI; human-in-the-loop AI agent experiences; FHIR R4; Da Vinci PAS; Azure Service Bus; C#/.NET; design systems and Material Design; production AI integrations; healthcare/PHI/HIPAA experience
