About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead Excelsior University's enrollment marketing strategy, lead generation, brand growth, and student pipeline growth
  • Build brand awareness and demand generation for degree and non-degree programs
  • Develop marketing strategies, campaigns, and channels that generate qualified inquiries
  • Lead and manage digital marketing, content/brand marketing, product marketing, and marketing operations and analytics staff
  • Operate Enrollment Marketing as a shared service for University network members under an agency model
  • Identify and onboard new network partners and expand services sold to existing partners
  • Own shared-services P&L, including pricing, cost-to-serve, profitability, and performance reporting
  • Set goals for inquiry volume, lead quality, application conversion, and cost per lead/acquisition; report progress to executive leadership
  • Develop and execute integrated enrollment marketing across digital, content, paid, organic, and offline channels
  • Collaborate with Admissions on lead handoff, lead scoring, service-level agreements, and conversion metrics
  • Partner with Academic Affairs and Deans to align marketing with program priorities, enrollment targets, and academic quality
  • Develop brand architecture and value-proposition communications across academic products
  • Guide market research, audience segmentation, market analysis, and competitive analysis
  • Lead SEM, SEO, paid social, organic social, and content marketing initiatives while maximizing ROI
  • Define and track marketing KPIs and meet quarterly and annual lead-generation and pipeline targets
  • Manage marketing and advertising agency and vendor relationships
  • Manage a multimillion-dollar marketing budget
  • Advise the President and executive leadership on marketing performance, trends, and competitive opportunities
  • Collaborate with Strategic Partnerships, IT, Analytics & Business Intelligence, Communications, the Project Management Office, and other departments
  • Use audience insights and analytics to continuously improve marketing performance
  • Report to the President and spend considerable time in the University's main offices in Albany, NY, with periodic travel to regional offices and centers throughout the U.S.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Seven or more years of progressive experience in enrollment marketing, higher education marketing, and/or demand-generation/lead-generation marketing leadership
  • Demonstrated understanding of digital and cutting-edge marketing tools and strategies
  • Demonstrated success generating qualified leads through digital channels and converting inquiries into a strong applicant pipeline
  • Demonstrated success developing, leading, and managing brand campaigns with measurable outcomes
  • Experience with marketing automation and CRM technology, including lead scoring, nurture campaigns, and funnel reporting
  • Experience gathering and analyzing marketing and funnel data to improve lead volume, quality, and conversion
  • Track record in marketing management, marketing plans and budgets, market research, and monitoring outcomes against pipeline goals
  • Track record hiring, managing, and motivating marketing staff
  • Experience using marketing-related technologies, including AI, to improve results, lower costs, and maximize ROI
  • Significant experience in digital marketing, brand marketing, and managing marketing/advertising agency relationships
  • Ability to work with and be sensitive to the educational needs of adult learners and diverse student populations
  • Ability to lead and manage change while engaging key stakeholders collaboratively
  • Ability to adapt marketing strategies and tactics to various geographic markets
  • Excellent analytical, oral, written communication, and presentation skills
  • Experience operating in an agency, consulting, or shared-services model
  • Demonstrated success identifying and securing new clients or partners and growing existing-account revenue through expanded services
  • Experience with service pricing, scoping, and P&L accountability
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Strong emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to develop and sustain professional relationships and cultivate trust
  • Ability to motivate, inspire, lead, and manage through supervision, influence, collaboration, and communication
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively at all University levels
  • Capacity to act as an internal consultant and facilitator of cross-functional relationships
  • Demonstrated integrity and commitment to operational compliance with applicable state and federal regulations
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including project management experience
  • Preferred: extensive experience marketing to adult learners and/or online education audiences
  • Strongly preferred: university-level enrollment marketing vision, diverse prospective student populations, higher education marketing trends, marketing technology, B2B/B2C services sales or business development, and shared-services agreements
