About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Define and evolve Expedia Design's motion language
  • Establish motion principles, patterns, and guidelines for Expedia products
  • Build motion into the design system for consistent, scalable use
  • Design UI motion including transitions, micro-interactions, state changes, loading and success moments, and moments of delight
  • Prototype motion concepts and advocate for motion that supports usability
  • Write implementable motion specifications covering timing, easing, springs, choreography, and triggers across iOS, Android, and web
  • Partner with engineering on implementation and review builds to ensure shipped experiences match design intent
  • Advise teams on motion implementation approaches including native animation frameworks, Lottie, Rive, and CSS/JS animation
  • Design, build, or direct sizzle reels, product launch videos, promotional pieces, and storytelling content
  • Develop concepts, storyboards, and narratives and guide them through production with internal teams and external partners
  • Serve as the motion expert and quality voice across Expedia Design
  • Mentor designers and partners and build motion capability across the organization
  • Influence product leadership, brand, and marketing on the role of motion
  • Define and drive organization-level customer experience strategy
  • Operate as a player-coach while remaining directly engaged in design work

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree in Design, Motion, HCI, User Experience, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 5–10+ years of experience in product design or related disciplines, including leadership of large-scale teams
  • Proven ability to create engineering-ready motion specifications and hand off across iOS, Android, and web
  • Deep expertise in UI motion design, demonstrated through a portfolio of polished, purposeful product animation
  • Strong working knowledge of motion implementation in code across different technology stacks
  • Mastery of industry-standard motion and prototyping tools, such as After Effects, Figma, Principle, Rive, and Lottie workflows, or equivalent
  • Demonstrated ability to design, build, or direct editorial motion work, including brand films, sizzle videos, and promotional content
  • Strong storytelling, art direction, timing, rhythm, and craft skills
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with experience influencing senior cross-functional partners
  • Experience raising the craft bar for a team or organization through mentorship, standards, or leadership
  • Proven ability to define and drive organization-level customer experience strategy
  • Demonstrated ability to operate as a player-coach
  • Experience integrating customer insights, data, and AI-driven systems into design solutions
  • Nice to have: 3D design skills using Cinema 4D or Blender
  • Nice to have: experience building or contributing to a motion system within a design system
  • Nice to have: experience in travel, consumer marketplaces, or high-volume consumer products
  • Nice to have: hands-on familiarity with front-end or native animation code
