About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead multicultural, religious, hobby, social and fraternal markets for groups requiring 751+ peak room nights
- Manage the full sales cycle from prospecting and qualification through proposals, bids, presentations, site visits, negotiation, contracting, account management and follow-up
- Qualify, pursue and convert opportunities in alignment with booking guidelines and sales goals
- Develop and execute sales strategies supporting qualified leads, bookings and room-night goals
- Prepare customized proposals, bid materials and presentations positioning Columbus competitively
- Create and coordinate targeted customer events and collaborate with Marketing
- Maintain and grow assigned accounts while identifying new business opportunities
- Identify emerging market opportunities and advise sales leadership on market investment and business development priorities
- Monitor industry trends, market conditions and competitive destinations
- Serve as subject matter expert for assigned market segments
- Build knowledge of Columbus hotel inventory, convention center capacities and attendee experience; remotely based employees travel frequently to Columbus for sites, meetings, training and team activities
- Maintain relationships with clients, hotels, convention center, venues, service providers, team members and community stakeholders
- Plan and conduct site inspections and customer experiences
- Represent Experience Columbus at trade shows, conferences, sales events, professional associations, committees and networking opportunities
- Support familiarization tours, customer events and other sales initiatives
- Collaborate with Sales, Marketing and Destination Services on market initiatives and client experience
- Coordinate turnover of definite bookings to Destination Services
- Maintain accurate account, contact, profile, pipeline, activity, lead and booking records in Simpleview and other platforms
- Communicate leads, verifications, decision updates and lost business to partners
- Monitor performance against goals and share sales results, market trends and client feedback
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- 7+ years of experience through education, work experience or a combination of both
- Experience in hospitality, tourism and/or event management is a plus
- Experience working with a Destination Marketing Organization (DMO) or hotel is a plus
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines
- Strong attention to detail
- Highly motivated self-starter
- Experience building relationships with executive-level clients, community stakeholders, and industry leaders
- Strong understanding of market analysis, competitive positioning, and business development strategy
- Ability to share best practices and contribute to team development
- Ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
- Must be able to facilitate and execute site visits as requested
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with a diverse range of individuals
- Strong written and verbal communication skills

- Participation in industry events 2 to 3 times a month, potentially involving travel outside the Columbus region
- Ability to reside in Columbus or a location with direct commercial air service to Columbus, Ohio for remote consideration
