About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Work directly with strategic customers to jointly design, build, validate, and deploy solutions using Extreme's networking products and platforms
Own technical outcomes from discovery and solution design through implementation, deployment, and production readiness
Serve as technical lead for complex customer engagements
Understand customer environments, data, systems, workflows, and technical constraints
Design, build, deploy, and stabilize production solutions including agents, applications, integrations, data connectors, APIs, tools, workflows, automation, and infrastructure
Write production-quality software and solve complex systems and integration problems
Shape cross-engagement technical strategy, architecture, engineering practices, reference architectures, and technical standards
Lead architecture and engineering decisions spanning applications, AI systems, data, APIs, integrations, networking, security, infrastructure, and production operations
Serve as a senior technical escalation point for complex engineering and production-readiness challenges
Identify recurring patterns and turn them into reusable architectures, components, integrations, tools, automation, and capabilities
Identify platform gaps and define feature requirements with Product teams
Mentor engineers and raise the technical bar across the Forward Deployed Engineering organization

Requirements

What you’ll need

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience
15+ years of experience across the software development lifecycle, including architecture, design, implementation, testing, deployment, and production operations
Extensive hands-on software development experience with strong proficiency in one or more general-purpose programming languages such as Python, Java, Go, TypeScript, C#, or C++
Extensive experience architecting and delivering complex production systems across AI, automation, data, networking, enterprise integrations, distributed systems, or cloud infrastructure
Ability to solve highly ambiguous, cross-system technical problems
Experience providing technical direction across multiple systems, teams, or significant engineering initiatives
Strong customer orientation and experience working directly with customer technical teams in complex enterprise environments
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including communicating complex technical decisions, tradeoffs, and risks to technical and non-technical stakeholders
Ability to travel to customer sites as required by the engagement
Work authorization in the United States; employer cannot sponsor or take over sponsorship of employment visas, including H-1B visas
Preferred: Master's or PhD in a related discipline
Preferred: Experience with generative AI or agentic systems, Model Context Protocol, modern agent frameworks, networking, cloud-native infrastructure, enterprise identity, security, data integration, or Forward Deployed Engineering
