About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead a global Network Operations team responsible for network reliability and day-to-day operations across F5 Distributed Cloud commercial and FedRAMP environments
- Establish the Network Operations function within Infrastructure Operations
- Operate the global IP backbone, data center networks, cloud networks, and related connectivity
- Lead major incident response and serve as incident captain when assigned
- Run the Change Advisory Board and coordinate risk-based production change reviews
- Establish on-call rotations, sustainable coverage, and cross-region handoffs
- Own network availability, performance, operational health, observability, and reporting
- Partner with Network Engineering on acceptance criteria, operational handoffs, escalation paths, and lifecycle decisions
- Lead blameless post-incident reviews and problem management; track corrective actions to closure
- Coordinate with SOC, NOC, engineering, security, customer-facing teams, and Customer Support
- Set an automation-first direction using Python, Ansible/AWX, GitOps, and CI/CD
- Lead adoption of AI-assisted network operations for anomaly detection, event correlation, change-risk analysis, incident investigation, and knowledge retrieval
- Maintain runbooks, network diagrams, troubleshooting guides, and FedRAMP control evidence
- Partner cross-functionally with engineering, architecture, data center, capacity, SRE, security, product, customer support, and program management teams
Requirements
What you’ll need- Based in Reston, Virginia
- Must be a U.S. citizen located on U.S. soil
- Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.
- Must successfully pass required federal background screening and personnel screening requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent practical experience
- 10+ years of experience in network operations or network engineering across large-scale, multi-region production environments
- 5+ years of experience leading distributed teams of senior network or infrastructure engineers
- Experience with hiring, coaching, performance management, career development, and production support across time zones
- Experience leading major incidents, incident and problem management, and a CAB or comparable change-management function
- Strong understanding of BGP, OSPF, routing policy, and anycast and unicast traffic engineering
- Operational experience with JunOS
- Working knowledge of DDoS mitigation, proxy and application delivery services
- Working knowledge of hybrid cloud networking across AWS, Azure, and/or GCP, including private connectivity, VPNs, and cloud routing
- Experience modernizing network operations through production automation using Python, Ansible/AWX, configuration templates, GitOps, and CI/CD pipelines
- Understanding of network security controls and NIST 800-53-based control frameworks
- Ability to translate telemetry and incident, change, and capacity data into operational priorities
- Strong troubleshooting methodology
- Relevant professional certifications preferred, including JNCIE, CCIE, cloud networking or security credentials, CISSP, or ITIL certification
