About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Attend in-services or complete make-up assignments
  • Keep sites in compliance with TJC, DHS, CHDP, and Medi-Cal Managed Care Requirements
  • Perform waived testing and phlebotomy
  • Follow FHCSD Policies and Procedures to ensure positive patient outcomes
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe clinic environment
  • Prepare patients for examinations and procedures and assist providers as needed
  • Support provider productivity as needed
  • Help manage clinic flow, schedule patient follow-up appointments, and communicate referral information and discharge instructions
  • Respond to voicemails, route messages, and return phone calls promptly
  • Record patient information in the Electronic Health Record (EHR)
  • Administer medications, including injections, as needed
  • Clean, process, and sterilize medical instruments as needed
  • Collect and handle laboratory specimens appropriately
  • Follow 5S and continuous quality improvement methods
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Medical Assistant diploma from an approved course required
  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent required
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may qualify if it provides the required skills, knowledge, and ability and meets required state or federal certification requirements
  • Current American Heart Association healthcare provider CPR (BLS), or Advanced Cardiac Life Support, or Advanced Trauma Life Support, or Advanced Resuscitation Training required
  • Meets organizational driving requirements
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in an ambulatory care setting or similar setting is highly preferred
  • Ability to maintain good interpersonal interactions with clients and co-workers as a member of a multi-disciplinary community health team with a diverse multi-cultural population
  • Ability to multi-task, be flexible, ensure accuracy, and meet changing priorities in a fast-paced, high-workload environment
  • Basic computer literacy and ability to comply with department needs and expectations, including electronic medical record documentation and obtaining background information and reports on patients
  • Basic organizational skills, attention to detail, time-management skills, and strong motivation to meet deadlines and achieve goals
  • Multilingual preferred: English, Spanish, Arabic, and Somali depending on current priorities and locations
