About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Perform a wide variety of patient care activities and accommodating services for assigned clinic patients as directed by the Clinic Director and/or Nursing Director
  • Actively participate in LEAN/HONSHA trainings and serve as a member of the Core Team
  • Participate in clinical initiatives, including clinical quality outcomes, to achieve goals and metrics
  • Build positive relationships, inspire others, prepare career development plans, and retain an accountable workforce
  • Coach and counsel staff and administer appropriate disciplinary action
  • Communicate with physicians, PSRs, Medical Assistants, and other interdisciplinary care team and support services
  • Attend department meetings
  • Complete required documentation accurately, timely, and thoroughly; ensure subordinate staff complete documentation to department standards
  • Follow policies and procedures to ensure positive patient outcomes
  • Keep clinic workflow moving by assigning lunch and break times, setting up exam rooms, ordering supplies and vaccines, supporting provider productivity, reviewing patient problem lists, and calling in pharmacy refills
  • Keep the site compliant with TJC, DHS, CHDP, and Medi-Cal Managed Care requirements
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities and deploy and evaluate Lean tools such as 5S and A3
  • Perform clinical nursing tasks including vital signs, screenings, immunizations, medications, PPD tests, EKGs, ear lavage, sterile fields, equipment sterilization, oxygen setup, suctioning, straight catheterization, and IV starts
  • Complete standing orders as directed by the provider
  • Perform waived testing and phlebotomy when appropriately trained
  • Provide or ensure staff receive new-hire and annual training on time
  • Supervise assigned team, including hiring and scheduling as needed
  • Provide clinic oversight in the absence of the Clinic Director/Manager
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Graduation from a recognized RN/BSN program
  • High School Graduate (or GED equivalent)
  • California State Board RN License required
  • Current American Heart Association healthcare provider CPR (BLS), or Advanced Cardiac Life Support, or Advanced Trauma Life Support, or Advance Resuscitation Training required
  • Traveling between sites and other locations is required as an essential function of the job
  • Must have a car
  • Valid California driver’s license
  • Proof of minimum levels of car insurance as required under California law
  • Acceptable driving record
  • At least 3 years of experience in an ambulatory care setting or similar setting preferred
  • Ability to participate collaboratively with multi-disciplinary care team
  • Ability to work effectively with patients from diverse social, cultural and economic groups
  • Able to maintain good working relationships with employees, coworkers, and departments
  • Basic computer literacy ability, including electronic medical record documentation, obtaining background information and reports on patients, and following up on appointments
  • Bilingual (Read, Speak & Write) in English/Spanish preferred
  • Effective training and coaching skills
  • Ability to drive results and achieve objectives through others
  • Knowledge of child, adolescent, and adult health care issues
  • Knowledge of supervisory practices and techniques, including performance management and employee development
  • Knowledge of, and ability to perform, clinic-based nursing tasks
  • Demonstrated commitment to community medicine and providing culturally competent care to the medically underserved
