Head of People

About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Evaluate the existing HRIS and lead any required transition or expanded implementation
- Refine and expand the employee handbook and policy library
- Design and document HR processes for a mixed W-2/1099, multi-state, clinical and non-clinical workforce
- Own compensation strategy and banding with Finance
- Administer employee benefits and manage broker/vendor relationships
- Manage multi-state employment compliance, worker classification, and ABC-test exposure
- Partner with Finance and outside counsel on ERISA, payroll controls, and regulatory risk
- Build scalable recruiting infrastructure and processes for clinical and corporate hiring
- Partner with hiring managers on organizational design, headcount planning, and leveling
- Own the candidate experience from requisition through offer
- Design and roll out performance management frameworks
- Own employee relations, investigations, and performance improvement processes
- Build culture and engagement practices for a distributed, mission-driven team
- Advise the executive team on organizational design and people strategy
Requirements
What you’ll need- 8+ years of progressive HR/People leadership experience
- At least 2+ years building a People function largely from scratch at an early-stage or high-growth startup
- Working knowledge of multi-state employment law and worker classification, including exposure to strict/ABC-test states
- Experience designing compensation bands and partnering with Finance on compensation strategy and budget
- Experience managing a mixed workforce of W-2 employees and 1099 contractors
- Track record of evaluating, scaling, or implementing HRIS/people systems and foundational HR infrastructure, including handbooks, policies, and onboarding
- Strongly preferred: experience in healthcare services, behavioral health, or a multi-site/multi-state clinical workforce environment
- Strongly preferred: familiarity with HR and clinical credentialing/licensure functions
- Strongly preferred: experience within a PE- or VC-backed company
- Strongly preferred: SHRM-CP/SCP or equivalent HR certification
- Strongly preferred: experience building recruiting infrastructure and leading talent acquisition in a fast-scaling organization
