About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Design, develop, test, document, and deploy high-quality software into production
- Build features and tools used by the engineer’s team
- Participate in the on-call rotation when needed to troubleshoot software issues
- Escalate tasks or projects that encounter roadblocks
- Participate in code reviews to maintain code quality and share knowledge
- Contribute to team planning and design discussions
- Impact software quality and customer experience of product features
- Improve testability, operational excellence metrics, and team documentation
- Help define and follow engineering strategy principles, guidelines, and best practices
- Develop understanding of the industry, products, feature set, and roadmap
- Work with product teams and internal stakeholders on technology decisions that improve products
- Onboard and mentor junior engineers and interns
- Stay current on software development technologies and trends
- Attend occasional travel to Fanatics offices and other locations for conferences, events, meetings, and team-building activities
Requirements
What you’ll need- 5+ years of experience building highly scalable, performant and evolvable backend distributed systems
- Proficiency in Spring with Kotlin and/or Java is a plus
- Ability to drive backend development best practices and mentor others in clean code, hexagonal/layered architectures, domain-driven design, and other design and architectural patterns
- Knowledge of observability practices, including logging, monitoring, and tracing in distributed systems
- Expertise in Agile software delivery and driving process improvements across teams
- Ability to collaborate cross-functionally across diverse teams within large enterprise environments
- Excellent communication skills for conveying complex technical concepts to engineers, executives, and non-technical stakeholders
- Team-first mentality and willingness to strive for better
- Ability to thrive in a high-growth environment with evolving priorities and quick decisions
- Preferred: strong experience in sports industry, gaming, and content delivery
- Preferred: highly effective with Kotlin, Java, and/or Go
- Preferred: expertise in Kafka or Amazon SQS and event-driven architectures
- Preferred: familiarity with Kubernetes, Helm, Terraform, Cloud Native, and Infrastructure as Code
- Preferred: ability to work in legacy and greenfield codebases across different languages and environments
