About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Conduct virtual and on-site investigations at policyholders’ residences
  • Assess property damage, determine liability, evaluate losses, and negotiate fair settlements
  • Use claims handling software, a company car, and a laptop to determine damage and write paperless estimates
  • Evaluate and report potential subrogation opportunities
  • Report theft, fraud, and arson incidents to appropriate state and industry agencies
  • Perform duties independently with work directly impacting management outcomes
  • Represent the company professionally in public interactions
  • Engage with policyholders, claimants, agents, witnesses, contractors, law enforcement, fraud and arson investigators, attorneys, medical professionals, and other stakeholders
  • Negotiate with policyholders to settle claims
  • Promote safety and comply with company safety and ergonomic standards
  • Travel away from home for catastrophe deployments, usually for 23 days
  • Cover property damage claims across central Louisiana

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Excellent customer service experience, preferably in a retail environment
  • Construction or insurance experience highly desirable and preferred
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Computer literacy, including MS Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Proficiency with smartphones and applications
  • Eagerness to learn insurance policies and property damage
  • Outgoing personality and comfort interacting with policyholders, claimants, agents, witnesses, and fraud investigators
  • Valid driver's license
  • Bondable
  • Final candidates subject to a Motor Vehicle Record background check
  • Previous property damage claims experience preferred; employer willing to train the right candidate
  • Willingness and ability to climb ladders and work on rooftops multiple times per day
  • Comfortable working in small, confined spaces such as attics and crawlspaces
  • Ability to achieve a minimum passing score on all claims training exams
  • Ability to carry up to 50 lbs.
  • English speaking, reading, writing, and key entering ability
  • Ability to work in uncontrolled outdoor conditions and potentially noisy, hazardous, chemical, biological, respiratory, or skin-exposure environments
  • Must commit to 1–3 catastrophe deployments per year
