About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Represent clients in all areas of workers’ compensation defense practice
- Handle cases primarily low in complexity and exposure
- Manage all phases of cases from intake to resolution
- Litigate cases and prepare pleadings, motions, discovery, and briefs
- Attend hearings, conferences, interviews, mediations, arbitrations, and trials
- Inform leadership proactively about case-handling opportunities and challenges
- Consult with the Claims Department on legal aspects of files
- Perform tasks supporting efficient case management
- Handle second-chair trials and trials involving minimally complex or low-exposure cases
- Support senior attorneys on cases with greater complexity or exposure
- Take developmental assignments involving moderately complex or higher-exposure matters
Requirements
What you’ll need- Licensed to practice Law in applicable states required upon hire
- Civil litigation and/or personal/bodily injury experience preferred
- Public speaking
- Ability to function in adversarial or confrontational situations
- Driving
- Strong verbal communication and listening skills
- Excellent written communication skills
- Effective negotiation skills
- Ability to represent the company with external constituents
- Excellent judgment and decision-making skills
- Time management and priority-setting skills
- Strong technical aptitude
- Proficiency using technology in a virtual, paperless environment
- Candidates must be located anywhere in California and able to make occasional in-person WCAB appearances as required
