About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Support finance and operations activities of the international unit and its projects
- Verify and process financial transactions
- Prepare financial analysis documents
- Respond to enquiries from funders, project managers and country offices
- Provide administrative support to the Senior Director, Programs & Networks, G&D - Capacity & Sector Development
- Coordinate travel arrangements and organize meetings
- Finalize contracts and review and submit invoices and expense reports
- Ensure monthly financial data is received from Field/Regional Offices and perform quality review before upload into Workday
- Review monthly financial reports and backup documentation for accuracy and compliance with contribution agreements and Global Affairs Canada guidelines
- Process fund/advance requests from country offices and project partners
- Assist Financial Analysts with monthly financial reconciliation for international projects
- Provide technical support and advice to financial staff in Field/Regional Offices and Partners
- Reconcile FCM program bank accounts and ensure sufficient funds
- Clear, balance and analyze international programs balance sheet accounts monthly
- Prepare and calculate overseas allowances for expatriates monthly
- Prepare and record journal entries in the general ledger
- Organize logistics for unit activities and coordinate travel arrangements
- Support projects with additional capacity during travel peaks
Requirements
What you’ll need- Post-secondary education in finance, accounting or other relevant disciplines
- A minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in a finance/accounting role or equivalent related education/experience
- Strong knowledge of administrative practices and processes
- Strong knowledge of business support processes and tools, computer business applications (Microsoft Office suite)
- Good organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines/turnaround times
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, discretion and tact when dealing with sensitive information
- Strong customer service skills
- Experience working in international programs or overseas is an asset
- Ability to work with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds
- Understanding of financial management principles
- Understanding of donor-funded guidelines and contractual obligations
- Strong business acumen, problem-solving and results-based management skills, including planning, budgeting, reporting and evaluation processes
- Ability to lead highly collaborative, dynamic teams in an outcomes-focused, real-time, client service environment
- Workday experience or certifications considered a strong asset
- Knowledge of Treasury Board Guidelines as well as QuickBooks experience is an asset
- High level of commitment and integrity
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in both English and French
- Required to live within 80kms of downtown Ottawa, unless otherwise specified
- Authorized to work in Canada
