About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Prepare required tax filings for approximately 750 complex fiduciary accounts
  • Prepare fiduciary income tax returns, including Forms 1041, 1099 and 5227
  • Prepare charitable entity, individual, partnership, gift and estate tax returns
  • Prepare appropriate work-papers and audit trails
  • Complete complex returns accurately with minimal review
  • Meet production goals and regulatory deadlines
  • Develop technical skills and remain current with tax and estate laws and regulations
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in a specialty area such as estates, investment partnerships, charitable trusts and foundations, GST trusts or tax research
  • Assist with tax return review and finalize less complex fiduciary income tax returns
  • Provide feedback to team members regarding reviewed returns, transactions and work papers
  • Review trust documents and ensure accurate taxation of assigned accounts
  • Monitor and analyze account transactions for tax consequences
  • Advise Portfolio Managers, Trust Officers and Wealth Management Advisors on tax implications
  • Generate individual income tax projections for tax planning
  • Respond to client and advisor questions about tax liabilities, deductions, credits and related issues
  • Correspond with the Internal Revenue Service and state tax authorities
  • Participate in Investment Advisors project teams as an income tax subject matter expert
  • Research federal, state and local tax law issues
  • Research and present internal departmental training on relevant tax topics
  • Mentor, guide and train less experienced staff
  • Assist with department special projects, policy and procedure changes, issue escalation and complex problem-solving

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Minimum 7–10 years’ experience in tax or prior public or industry accounting
  • Advanced working knowledge of accounting and tax subject matters
  • Microsoft Office software proficiency
  • Understanding of tax return preparation software
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Sound judgment and ability to apply logical/critical thought processes
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work individually with minimal or no supervision and as a team member
  • Ability to work in a professional and dynamic environment
  • CPA, EA or MBA preferred
