About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Build legal team tools including contract intake, redline and review agents, clause library, and customer-commitment tracking
- Convert lawyers' advice into code running in products and pipelines
- Research and technically analyze terms of service, robots.txt, copyright, privacy, and Alexandria data providers with counsel
- Own the technical side of legal commitments and demonstrate compliance with terms, DPAs, and policies during customer security reviews
- Build tools enabling sales and operations to handle routine paperwork without waiting for legal
- Identify product legal risk before launch and resolve it through engineering
- Report to the General Counsel and collaborate daily with engineers
- Complete a live technical chat, legal chat, founder chat, and approximately 40-hour paid work trial
Requirements
What you’ll need- Production software engineering experience; Python or TypeScript, APIs, data, and LLMs
- Real legal background: a JD or years working inside a law firm or in-house legal team
- AI super user; uses AI to move faster by default (hard requirement)
- Ability to turn vague legal questions into clear rules and rules into systems
- Self-starter able to build and run a new function without a predefined plan
- Must be authorized to work in the United States
- Must be based in the Bay Area or willing to relocate before starting
- Must work onsite at SF HQ 3+ days per week
- Bar admission is a plus
- Submit a production artifact, legal-background note, resume, LinkedIn, and GitHub during application
