About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Research how modern websites detect and challenge automated traffic
- Analyze detection mechanisms and challenge flows
- Identify browser, device, network, and behavioral signals distinguishing automated access from human traffic
- Reproduce signals synthetically in authorized test environments
- Build automation, diagnostic, and monitoring tools
- Measure scrape success rate, explain regressions, and ship fixes
- Work with platform engineers to deploy improvements across the crawling fleet at scale
- Participate in application review, technical interviews, founder chat, and a paid work trial
Requirements
What you’ll need- 3+ years building browser automation, web infrastructure, or systems-level software
- Strong JavaScript/TypeScript and/or Python skills
- Understanding of rendering, JavaScript engines, headless automation, CDP, Playwright, and Puppeteer
- Understanding of HTTP/TLS, proxies, browser fingerprinting, and device fingerprinting
- Ability to read minified and obfuscated code and determine what it checks
- Ability to research deeply and ship fixes to production
- Must be authorized to work in the United States or Canada
- US visa sponsorship is not available; Canadian sponsorship considered case-by-case through the Toronto Hub
- Must be based in or willing to relocate to the Bay Area or Greater Toronto Area before starting
- Nice to have: JavaScript and VM-based obfuscation, network-level fingerprinting including TLS/HTTP2 signatures and JA3/JA4, large browser or proxy fleets in production, or experience at a scraping, web data, security research, or automation company
