About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Independently review legal documents and litigation correspondence to calculate, record, and disseminate docket dates
- Review court dockets as needed
- Verify jurisdiction, court/venue, relevant authorities, and calculated dates
- Adjust deadlines for federal, state, statutory, agency, local rules, and practices
- Enter litigation deadlines into Milana, the firm’s litigation docketing platform
- Provide proactive support to litigation teams and coordinate with docketing attorneys
- Quality review own work according to internal protocols and escalate questions to the Litigation Docketing Manager and docketing attorneys
- Assist with inter-department training focused on court rules research and interpretation
- Quality review Docketing Specialists’ work product
- Respond to litigation team inquiries regarding docketed events, deadlines, and court rules
- Prepare and distribute regular docket reports and additional reports upon request
- Research court rules for assigned jurisdictions and present findings to case teams
- Maintain and improve processes and procedures to enhance efficiency and minimize risk
- Suggest improvements to docketing procedures and workflow
- Promote and ensure compliance with firm docketing policies, procedures, best practices, and workflows
Requirements
What you’ll need- 5+ years’ docketing experience computing deadlines in federal, state, and agency court jurisdictions
- Experience with rules-based docketing systems
- Experience with Milana preferred
- Thorough knowledge of litigation docketing processes in a law firm
- Familiarity with federal and state court procedural rules
- Demonstrated knowledge of the litigation lifecycle
- Reliable and detail oriented
- Strong analytical, organizational, communication, time management, and technical skills
- Highly motivated and proactive with strong attention to detail
- Ability to exercise independent and professional judgment
- Excellent customer service and ability to multi-task
- Ability to work under pressure to meet strict deadlines
- Ability to identify issues, draw valid conclusions, present them clearly and concisely, and develop and implement solutions
- Ability to work well within a team-oriented environment
- Ability to work 8:30–5:30 Pacific Time regardless of work location
